Welcome to the SLSLM!

The Sri Lankan Society of Lifestyle Medicine (SLSLM) is a community of health professionals dedicated to establishing lifestyle medicine as the primary therapeutic approach for managing chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Sri Lanka. Our focus goes beyond the traditional role of physicians in treating NCDs and extends to the prevention, treatment, and reversal of NCDs in clinical settings through the implementation of evidence-based lifestyle medicine practices. We are an independent, non-profit organization with no religious or political affiliations. All our work is driven by science and informed by evidence.

The evidence shows that a diet consisting of whole foods and plants can help prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic illnesses. Regular physical activity is necessary for good health and resilience. Managing negative stress can decrease anxiety, depression, and immune dysfunction, which can lead to improved well-being. Improving sleep quality can have many benefits, such as improving attention span, mood, and insulin resistance, while reducing hunger and sluggishness. Using tobacco and consuming excessive alcohol have been proven to increase the risk of chronic diseases and death and positive social connections can have beneficial effects on physical, mental, and emotional health.
